The docking station facilitates multiple possibilities in making the Surface Pro 3, Microsoft’s 3rd generation 2-in-1 tablet/laptop become a bona fide all-in-one device as it is now capable to serve as a desktop computer too. The device is able to connect with a mouse, a keyboard and a monitor, in which the Surface Pro 3 users can finally relish what computing enthusiasts desire: one single, powerful device to rule them all.

What are the best features of this Surface Pro 3 docking station?

A valuable aspect about the Surface is its high productivity, and succeeding the Surface Pro 3 device itself, mounting into the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 Docking Station is indeed a mark of virtuosity as it is all about exhausting the possibilities of flexibility and increased efficiency. From a two-in-one device (a tablet and a laptop), this device instantly turns your Surface Pro 3 into a full-blown desktop PC, allowing the user an easy access to your external monitors, keyboard, mouse, printer, speakers, and etc. This latest version essentially has kept the same practical and functional design of the original Docking station which already has the ease and coziness in docking and un-docking the tablet into the device. It’s basically the same design with quite a number of improvements and one of the improvements noted on this latest model is the security lock slot that secures the docking station.

Another astounding highlight of the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 Docking Station is that is enables you to use external monitors which definitely boosts up work output. More screen means more things that can be done at a time. With the docking station, the user is able to run up to 3 screens. More so, it is almost entirely made from a thin, metal material which makes the size and the weight of this dock is just enough to carry it around (if you would wanna go mobile carrying this dock) and yet has enough density to hold its place and will not be moving around when you use other accessories like the keyboard or mouse.

PROS

  • Lightweight and portable
  • Durable built
  • Leaves the ports on the tablets uncovered (adds to the second mini display port and another USB3.0 on top of the many ports in the docking station)
  • A magnet along the left edge of the dock so users can hold the Surface Pen
  • Extends elegantly to the sides allowing the user place the Surface Pro 3 with ease and a slight push snaps right back to connect with the computer
  • Great viewing angle
  • Elegant and sophisticated design
  • Great amount of useful ports
  • Allows you to charge
  • Extends display to other monitors
  • Easy to use
  • Makes the tablet feel like a desktop PC

CONS

  • Viewing angle is fixed
  • No HDMI but has MDP (adapter may be useful for this)
  • Security lock slot only secures the docking station itself and not the device
  • A must have for those who have Surface Pro 3 but the price makes the whole package heavy on the budget

Brydge+ iPad Keyboard with Speakers Review

One of the best designed iPad keyboards that became popular back in 2012 is manufactured by Brydge. This product was successfully funded through a Kickstarter project and it was backed by 3,266 people, astoundingly reaching the amount of $797,979 from their $90,000 goal pledge. The Brydge+ iPad Keyboard has an elegant style as it simply just makes your iPad look and feel like the MacBook Air. Having said that, it was not a surprise how this genius idea got the support of many. Know more about this device through this Brydge+ iPad Keyboard with Speakers Review.

Not many keyboards in the market allows the iPad to be tilted from the closest angle up to a full 180 degree range. This gives the Brydge+ iPad Keyboard a distinct feature from all the rest out there that mostly uses indented slots or sometimes a stand to view the screen only at certain angles.

What are the best features of this iPad keyboard?

The Brydge+ iPad Keyboard is made from anodized aerospace-grade aluminum and this material and design gives it the very familiar look and feel of Apple’s products like the MacBook Air. It’s shell-patterned design allows you to tilt your device at any desired angle without flipping over through its sturdy hinges lined with soft silicone shimmies where the iPad is tightly held in place. These hinges also slightly elevates the back of the keyboard at a minimal angle, providing a comfortable typing angle for the user and the rubber tips at the back of the keyboard prevents it from sliding around on the surface. The iPad and the keyboard also automatically goes to sleep mode once it is neatly closed.

One model of the Brydge+ iPad Keyboard has grille speakers located above the keys and it delivers a slightly louder audio output compared to the speakers of the iPad located at the back. Although the sound frequency and amplitude is impressively higher, the bass is weak and it seems not so good with higher tones (it muddles a little bit). Even so, the built-in speaker will be enough for watching a movie from your device in a quiet environment and marginally better than the one-sided audio of the iPad that is located away from the viewer. Battery life can last for months, and although as notable as it sounds, just like all other devices this is dependent on how the device is used. For example, using the speakers of the keyboard a lot may consume the battery much faster.

PROS

  • Classy, elegant and sexy-modish design
  • Made from quality, robust and sturdy material: full-sized aerospace-grade aluminum
  • Snug fit and tightly secures iPad 2, 3rd and 4th Generations
  • Clam-shell  design allows user to freely tilt the iPad at any angle up to 180 degrees (until it fully levels the keyboard)
  • Connects the keyboard and speaker of your iPad via Bluetooth (wireless)
  • Easy and convenient to bring wherever you go (small size)
  • Stylish Neoprene Carrying Case can provide protection to back of the iPad as well as the keyboard when travelling (sold separately)
  • Firm keys have more travel (about 2mm) and are snappy and very responsive
  • Large speaker grille produces a slightly louder sound output compared to the iPad’s built in speaker
  • Easy to pair with your device (uses control key commands)
  • Dedicated iPad control and media keys located on top row of the keyboard allow easy access for iPad functions (brightness, volume, iPad lock, etc)
  • Slight elevation of the keyboard as well as fully functional QWERTY keys provide a comfortable typing experience for the user

CONS

  • The keyboard is heavy for a reason. The device may double the weight of your iPad when it is attached to it but the same weight pulls your device and holds it in place thus prevents it from being toppled over
  • Some shortcut keys for iPad functions have incompatibility (not working) with iOS 7 (perhaps an upgrade will be available for this in the future)
  • It looks really like you have a “touchscreen MacBook Air” when you use this keyboard with your iPad, except that there is no backlight on the keyboard

Yes, this keyboard is quite expensive for an iPad accessory. However, the quality of this keyboard justifies its price as compared to other products of the same range in the market. It allows you to have a full notebook or laptop experience with your iPad and this is something that is not found in other products. It looks appealing and stylish also provides the best typing experience for the user.

HP Chromebook 14 Review

HP released HP Chrome 14 as one of its its Chrome OS laptops recently and there has been quite a few buzz about it in the laptop market. One thing remarkable about this laptop is that it has quite a sexy and sleek design that is more likely resembling to a MacBook and is available in different colors (White/Coral/Aqua). Get more details of laptop on this HP Chromebook 14 Review.

Click here for product pricing and more user reviews.

It’s pretty interesting to note that this laptop only runs on a 16GB or a 32GB of internal storage but this is probably because of the fact that as it is  running the cloud-based Chrome OS, HP would want the users to store most of their files on Google’s Drive cloud storage. Clearly the internal storage available isn’t much space, but Google has also bundled 100GB of cloud storage with the Chromebook – which is free only for the first two years.

What are the Good and the Not so Good about this laptop?

The design of this HP Chromebook 14  would be one of the things to get easily noticed if we are going to start on the good part. It’s pretty much looking good for an inexpensive price tag, smooth with rounded edges and also a vent-less and screw-less creation. It may look a bit cheap considering the fact that it is made of plastic material – but the design looks simple and elegant yet it feels sturdy. The plastic chassis of the computer is linked with a magnesium frame so it makes it light but strong. It’s not so thick as well (0.81 inches thick) however, it weighs 4.07 lbs which is quite heavy.

The screen display is not too brilliant but it’s enough with a 1366×768 resolution. It is clear, bright and the colors are somewhat vibrant although it is very glossy to it tends to reflect light. This laptop’s satin sparkle imprint finish is nothing special but for a 14 inch laptop,  you would appreciate that the keys are in perfect size and distance from each other which makes it rather easy to find the letters when typing.

PROS

  • Larger display than most Chromebooks
  • Connectivity: dual-band 802.11n, Bluetooth 4.0, 4G (optional)
  • Processor: 4th generation Intel Celeron 2955U
  • Excellent battery life
  • Great solid performance
  • I/O Ports: 2x USB 3.0, 1x USB 2.0, HDMI, Audio in/out combo jack, 3-in-1 card reader (SD/SDHC/SDXC), Kensington lock

CONS

  • Shiny display catches a lot of glare and reflection
  • Low-end materials used

HP Chromebook 14 is not bad depending on the kind of use you have with your computer. If you are a person who needs solid performance for a laptop and does multiple tasks or gaming at once, this might not be a wise option for you. But if you are someone more concerned of the looks of the laptop – like the design and how neat it looks when you open it in a coffee shop or in the library then this can be a good choice. A sleek and stylish design with great performance and battery life are definite reason this laptop can be a good choice for moderate laptop users.
